Preparation for sonogram differs for each case for echo there is a different procedure and for pregnancy the procedure is different. So let see some of the basic preparation which is common for all the scans.

So first what is ultrasound scan, the scan which uses high frequency of sound waves and turns it into imaging is known as ultrasound or sonogram.

Preparation of ultrasound scan

The patient can drink water and not use the toilet until the scan is taken (for pregnant ladies), in some cases the doctors advise the patient to pee and come.
In other cases the patient should not eat or drink water for several hours before the scan, in case of more thirst you can consume a spoon of water but no food. This procedure will help the doctors to find out any problem in the digestive system, liver and gallbladder.

The test and procedure changes depending upon the area of the body which is to be examined. In rare cases doctors advise us to take some sedative to send a tube in your arms and legs.

In other rare cases doctors will inject a contrast agent (heart attack patient to find the blocks) before the scan which helps them to receive clearer ultrasound images.

Many doctors who do angioplasty will suggest the patient to take ultrasound because this scan helps the doctors whether the patient body is capable of doing angioplasty or not.

Ultrasound can diagnose multiple heart conditions like congestive heart failure and damage after a first or mild heart attack as well.

The procedure through ultrasound for heart is known as Echo (Echocardiogram)
