Kumbukkal pepper is a well-known black pepper plant developed by the innovative farmer K T Varghese at his kumbuckal nursery in Kottayam. The kumbuckal pepper plant is unique due to its high yielding, disease resistance, and all-weather compatibility. The root system protects against diseases such as fast wilt (foot rot), slow wilt, and hollow berry (pollu). It thrives in the Midwest, rocky high mountains with shallow soils, and all pepper-growing zones. It grows quickly, with yields peaking in three years and a single plant producing 4-6 kg of dried black pepper.
