Location of Valley Valley of Flowers is located in Uttarakhand states Chamoli District, about 500 km north of National Capital of India Delhi, between 30°41'–30°48'N and 9°33'–79°46'E. In 1982, the VOF was given status of a National Park to preserve an area of alpine meadows in the high altitudes (ranges from 3200 to 6675 m) of the Himalayas. The Valley is spread over an area of 87.50 km². A UNESCO Heritage Site Valley of Flowers is included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO on the suggestion of the Government of India and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) from 14 July 2005. History: - When & How Valley of Flowers was unknown to world till 1930s, while some of locals were quite aware of the valley but never ever went there because of some superstitious believes of fairies called ‘AACHRI’ in local language. The VOF was discovered in 1931 by 3 foreigner mountaineers Frank S. Smythe, Eric Shipton and RL Holdsworth when they lost their way while returning from ‘Kamet’ Mountain and decide to name it Valley of Flowers because of its beauty and vast verity of flowers in the valley. There are different variety of flowers and herbs in valley like Andros aces, Geums, Asters, Sedums, Geraniums, Gentians, Potentillas, Saxifrages and many more. How to Visit Tourist who wants to visit VOF can start their journey from Rishikesh which is nearest Railway station to valley and the nearest airport is 20 kms far from Rishikesh and after Rishikesh it is just sort of 8 to 9 hours’ drive to reach the base to VOF. One can Stay at Joshimath or Govindghat from Govindghat there are two ways one go for Badrinath ji and another goes for Pulna Village which is way for Valley of Flowers and Shri Hemkund Sahib ji which is highest pilgrimage for Sikh Community and from Govindghat it is just 2 kms drive to Pulna village after reaching Pulna village its trek for valley of flowers. From Pulna 9kms above is Ghangaria which is in Bhyundar Valley and from where entrance of VOF is started and from there are two different ways one for VOF and one for Shri Hemkund Sahib ji. Valley of Flowers is just 3.5 kms trek from Ghangaria and it starts from half Kms above from Ghangaria and end in foot hills of Himalayas with a glacier. When Valley of Flowers is ready to welcome you. The Valley of Flowers welcomes trekkers from 1st June till early October and on 4th October it’s time to say good bye to the Valley till next June. Whole Valley is at very high altitude, so there is heavy snow and snowfall that’s why it is not possible to visit valley rest of the year so it remains closed for that time Timing Schedule in a day For Valley. Entry time starts sharp 700 hrs (7.00 AM) and the is allowed till 1400 hrs (2:00 PM) and can’t stay after 1700hrs (5.00 PM). Best time is to start trek at 600 hrs (6:00 AM) and start back journey from Valley at 1430 hrs (2:30 PM). Entry Charges/fee: Indiana are charged Rs. 150 and foreigners Rs. 600 ($12 approx.) This charge is for three-day pass to the valley. Rs. 50 for Indians and Rs. 250 ($5 approx.) for foreigners is cha for an additional day. A still camera is allowed (professional or non-professional). Carrying Non-professional video cameras are allowed free of cost. For carrying professional video camera, Indians have to pay Rs. 500 and Foreigners have to pay Rs. 1500. There is charge list for making of a feature film or documentary; Indians will be charged Rs. 100,000 for a feature film and Rs. 10,000 for documentary per day and foreigners Rs. 200,000 for a feature film and Rs. 30,000 for a documentary per day respectively.
